Mission
Arteventura is an artist residency set on a 25-hectare wooded estate deep in the Spanish inland. The project is founded on a philosophy of autonomy and a return to essentials.
Since its founding, nearly 300 artists from around the world have shaped Arteventura through their work, experiences, and contributions, helping define the residency’s character and ongoing development.
Arteventura offers silence, space, and time for research, experimentation, and the creation of new, adventurous work. The residency emphasizes process, investigation, and experimentation as integral parts of artistic practice.
In addition to providing a unique environment for artistic research, Arteventura regularly hosts informal on-site meetings with professionals, curators, and collectors, organized by Ana Sanfrutos, curator and director of Hybrid Art Fair Hybrid Art Fair.
At the end of the residency, artists are invited—but not obliged—to share their research or its outcomes with a wider audience through an exhibition, artist talk, or studio presentation.
Arteventura aims to be a place where international artists and local communities come together. In this region, tradition still plays an important role in daily life, yet it coexists with curiosity and openness to the world beyond. Artists can collaborate with local artisans, while residents are encouraged to engage with and discover contemporary art—a true exchange of cultures and ideas.

The residency is open to anyone professionally engaged in the arts—not only visual artists, but also curators, writers, composers, designers, architects, and more.
It suits those seeking quiet and solitude as well as those looking for interaction and dialogue, offering a flexible environment for both. Surrounded by 25 hectares of woodland in the Spanish inland, the residency provides an opportunity to step away from the distractions of urban life and immerse oneself in nature.
Off-grid living and autonomy shape the context of the residency, not its artistic agenda. Artists are free to pursue any subject, medium or discipline; the self-sufficient environment simply provides the conditions for focused research, reflection, experimentation and artistic practice.
For those interested, the residency also offers the opportunity to experience the challenges and rewards of off-grid living, embracing simplicity, sustainability and the natural rhythm of the surroundings. Here, the way of living and the way of working naturally inform one another, without prescribing the direction or content of the work.
Selection process
Applications are accepted year-round, subject to availability. Additionally, an open call for artists from all disciplines is launched annually every May.
Artists are selected based on the quality of their portfolio, references, motivation, and the potential for the residency to contribute meaningfully to the development of their artistic practice.
The selection also considers the relevance of the proposed project and the artist’s openness to engaging with Arteventura’s distinctive context, including its commitment to sustainability and off-grid living.
Duration and dates
Residencies have a minimum duration of four weeks and can be extended up to three months.
Each residency follows fixed start and end dates, providing a structured timeline that supports continuity and a focused atmosphere, allowing artists to fully immerse themselves in their practice. To preserve the tranquillity of the residency and ensure a shared rhythm for everyone, participants are expected to arrive and depart on these scheduled dates.
The set schedule also encourages a sense of community among participants, balancing individual exploration with opportunities for collective interaction, while minimizing distractions and outside interruptions.
