Mission
Arteventura is an artist’s residency on a wooded estate of 25 ha deep in the Spanish inland. A philosophy of autonomy and back to basics form the foundation of the project.
Arteventura offers silence, space and time to engage in research and development, take risks and create new and adventurous work. The focus of the residency is on process, research and experimentation, as part of the artistic work. A connection between research and residency is encouraged.
Arteventura not only offers a unique context to engage in artistic research. On a regular base there are on-site informal meetings with professionals, curators and collectors, organised by Ana Sanfrutos, curator and director of Hybrid Art Fair.
At the end of the residency, a way of sharing the research or its results with a wider audience will be considered with the artists (not mandatory). This can be an exhibition, an artist talk or a small studio presentation,…
Arteventura aims to be a place where international artists and the communities of the region come together. In the entire region, tradition still has an important place in daily life. Yet this goes hand in hand with an open mind and curiosity about what exists outside this region. Artists can cooperate with local craftsmen, while inhabitants of the region are invited to meet and discover art. An ideal cross-pollination!
For whom
Anyone who is professionally involved with art is welcome to apply. Not only visual artists, but also curators, writers, composers, designers, architects,…
For those seeking quietude and solitude, or, on the other hand, interaction and dialogue – the possibilities of the residency are numerous. It is an opportunity for artists who wish to immerse themselves in nature, away from the distractions of urban life. Additionally, this residency is ideal for those who want to experience the challenges and rewards of off-grid living, embracing sustainability, simplicity, and the rhythm of nature.
Functioning
Applications are accepted year-round, depending on availability. In addition, every year in May, we launch an open call for artists from all disciplines.
At arteventura, we welcome artists based on their portfolio, references, and their connection to the spirit of the place. We’re looking for artists who are motivated, open to the context, and ready to engage with their surroundings.
In the selection process, we consider artistic vision, motivation, project relevance, and sensitivity to Arteventura’s unique character, including our commitment to sustainability and off-grid living.
Duration and dates
Residencies have a minimum duration of 4 weeks and can be extended up to a maximum of 3 months.
Each residency begins and ends on fixed dates, providing a structured timeline that ensures continuity within the program. This approach helps maintain a calm, focused atmosphere, allowing artists to fully immerse themselves in their work.
The fixed schedule also fosters a sense of community among participants, encouraging both individual exploration and collective interaction, while minimizing distractions and outside interruptions.
Details about available time slots and specific start/end dates can be found in the open call.
